2009 August
Started a telescope making project to construct new 'Dobsonian style' mounts for several members.  results here

A bright fireball (meteor) was seen by member Bill G. on the night of Aug 4th 2009. The event was also captured by an  automated meteor camera system  located just outside of Mudgee (operated by  Rob McNaught , Siding Spring Observatory).

It took several seconds to travel about 50 degrees across the southern part of the sky, slicing past the Pointers (Alpha and Beta Centauri) and the Southern Cross (Crux).

note: the circular marks mid-left of frame are reflections  inside the camera lens caused by the Moon just out of field.

26th August... 3 members of our group provided several telescopes for a school astronomy night held at Bush Rock Vineyard just outside of Rylstone. Over 100 kids, mums and dads enjoyed views of the Moon, Jupiter and deep sky objects under a beautiful clear sky. Thanks to all for a great night.

A perfect clear and steady sky was enjoyed by the group at the Christmas party, as well as a great BBQ and drinks.
Amazingly in the course of a couple of hours, 4 Iridium flares were seen by everyone there. Plenty of other satellites and meteors were seen, along with fine views of Jupiter and Neptune through a Celestron 14". Many deep sky splendours were observed through a variety of other telescopes. A very enjoyable night for all.
Many thanks to John and Patti for hosting the night at  Mudgee Observatory .
